| A number of jurisdictions and schools use a focus on bullying prevention as a starting point for school improvement plans and/or character and citizenship initiatives. A positive and nurturing environment is critical in order for students to feel cared for and safe. Many schools, communities and workplaces have identified bullying as a behaviour that is detrimental to a feeling of safety and security, and are addressing this issue in a variety of ways.
"Bullying prevention" does not signify a specific program; rather, it is an ongoing, collaborative process. The information and strategies offered here are intended as a starting point for schools and jurisdictions as they develop and implement their own plans and processes to help prevent bullying and ultimately, improve school culture.
