Donating Computers

All computer equipment we provide is donated - mainly by federal and provincial government departments, and public-spirited companies (see list of major supporters here). The contributions of these key donors are greatly appreciated.

For potential new donors: By reinvesting your surplus IT equipment through our program your organization can help to significantly increase the number of computers we provide to Alberta schools, libraries, and other learning-based organizations. Please send us your good surplus computers (P4 and above), laser printers and multi-media components. Please do not strip the equipment of vital operating components. Our refurbishing centres will use approved disk-wipe software to ensure all information is removed from hard drives, and a Microsoft operating system will then be re-installed. Our procedures are quick and simple, and all contributions will be acknowledged.

Tax Receipts for Donations

Tax receipts may also be issued for recent and functional equipment with all parts intact, as outlined below:

  1. Tax receipts will be issued when specifically requested by donors, and when donors deliver (or assume cost of delivering) equipment to our shops in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, or Brocket. Receipts will be mailed to donors after donated equipment has been tested.
  2. Receipts will only be provided for functional LCD displays that are 5 years or less in age.
  3. Tax valuations are modified regularly according to current estimated prices. Current valuations (as of July 24, 2008) are as follows:
    • Complete P4 systems (with CPU, display, keyboard and mouse) = $150
    • P4 CPUs only = $100
    • LCD "display" only (complete with power adaptor) = $25
    • No receipts can be issued for other components (keyboards, mice) when donated separately.
